About Us

About Me

My name is Pete and have been training dogs in the Western Suburbs for over 13 years. Besides puppy training, and training dogs in basic and advanced obedience skills, I specialize in working with dogs who are fearful and shy to fearful dogs that have reactive behaviors because they are afraid. I also specialize in working with dogs who have aggressive tendencies such as leash aggression, people aggression, dog aggression, barking, lunging and more.  Whether it is in your home or outside the home I feel the most joy in having a dog is when your dog is well mannered and well behaved. At that point you are free to take your dog along into the world and experience life together outside the home as well as inside.

About Training

My experience tells me adequate training cannot just happen in a classroom or at a "Board and Train" .  My training consists of a "Hands On"/One on One"  approach.  I work with you on every command and issue that with make your dog a well mannered and enjoyable pup.  If you watch the videos below all the results are without the use of treats, E-Collar or prong-collar.  Training happens in a variety of locations.  Out and about in your neighborhood, in your home as well as any place that will give your dog exposure to "Real World" distractions.  This includes training at places like Home Depot, Yorktown Mall, AT Home, Naperville Riverwalk or any other place that is dog friendly.  If it is basic obedience we are working on, any place where there are lots of distractions only add to your dog's level of obedience.  As an example,  if your dog exhibits "Dog Leash" reactivity, this also cannot be solved in a classroom setting or by passing 1 dog a day or a couple of dogs a week while walking in your neighborhood.  This requires exposure to multiple dogs at one time which is why I utilize trails around dog parks where without going in the park we may encounter and pass 10 or 15 dogs in any given hour.  We utilize this kind of exposure to help correct reactivity in your dog.  In other words I work to use every possible venue to help your dog become the best behaved and trained dog you can possibly have.

There will come a time when you will hear these words.

"I wish my dog was as well trained as yours"...

My dog Joy...

This would be my goal for your pup.  Sadly Joy crossed the Rainbow Bridge on 01/26/2024.  She will be surely missed...!!

Joy and Bell

Joy

This is Lobo. A dog from Mexico that a Daughter and Grand Daughter brought up when their Father/Grandfather passed away. He would of otherwise ended up on the streets. A highly reactive dog. We have been working with Lobo a few months and finally decided he is ready to start "Close Proximity" training. As you can see he is doing quite well. We still have more work to do with him. The owners have been doing great work with him on their own and he has made great progress...!! On a side note this is a dog that "Dog Training and Grooming" on 63rd street in DG said without even meeting Lobo is a dog that most likely could never be normal and declined to train him. Yikes...!!

Lobo #2-This walk with my dog Joy was Lobo's first close contact with another dog and 1/2 way through our walk I decided to push the envelope a little to take his temperature and he got a little grumpy. I posted this video so you have a glimpse of what he was like prior to starting training. Multiply this behavior times 10 and that will give you an idea of his previous reactivity. Keep in mind, no treats, prong collar or e-collar.

Lobo #3

This is Cinnamon in a "Dropped Leash Heel Walk". Her Mom told me she was rejected by Downers Grove Dog Training and Grooming because she had aggressive tendencies and was told it would take months and months of rehabilitation and also she will never be able to be around other dogs. This was all before they even met this sweet girl. This was determined over the phone. Can you imagine...? I sure can't. This is at Yorktown Mall. Longer video to follow...Stand by

Rachel working with Oakley on his "Down, Stay". Notice at the end Oakley pushes back and how wonderfully Rachel handles him...!!

Beau chillin'...

This is Bean..."People Watching" at Yorktown Mall...

This video of Rudy with his dog Winnie was texted to me 10/31/2023.  A screen shot of the text is in the "Photo Gallery" section...

This is 3 year old pit mix Sophie.  Billy has had Sophie since a pup and has avoided dogs since he had her.  Sophie is reactive and Billy has always been nervous about bringing her around other dogs.  I am doing "Close Proximity" work with my dog Joy as I often due with these types of dogs.  This is only our 4th session but Sophie is doing great...!!

Lobo makin' progress...

Lobo makin' more progress...!!

This is part of training.  This is Rolly and he gets very excited and will tend to lunge at other dogs.  I do what I call "Close Proximity" walking with my dog Joy to teach him how to walk properly.  Eventually he will be able to meet dogs face to face.

You can see in this video with Rolly I switched Joy's position from an outside to an inside position to get her closer to Rolly.  He is doing great...!!

This is Cinnamon again.  The same Cinnamon that the training facility on 63rd St in Downers Grove called Dog Training and Grooming said could never be trained and would never be normal...He couldn't have been more wrong...!!

Cinnamon starting to understand the dogs are not here to hurt here and she starts to play...
